What is Reiki?

reiki2.146120955_stdReiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a Japanese healing technique that uses spiritually guided life energy to promote health and well-being.  This life energy (also called prana in yoga and chi in Chinese medicine) is in everything and all around us. It flows throughout and beyond the physical body. Many aspects of our lives can disrupt or even block this flow such as trauma, injury, stressful and hectic living, lacking self-nurturance, fears, worries, anxiety, addictions, and repressed emotions. When this flow is blocked or is sluggish, a person is vulnerable to illness or disease.  Reiki restores a person’s life energy and awakens one’s inner body wisdom so the life energy flows to where it’s needed and towards the highest level of healing and wellness.

Reiki is gentle yet powerful. It affects all levels of a person’s being- physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual with lasting effects well after a healing session. Reiki is offered by a certified practitioner who has been attuned to the Reiki energy by a Reiki Master Teacher during a Reiki class.  The attunement awakens in the student the ability to channel Reiki energy. The practitioner places her hands lightly on or slightly above locations along the client’s body such as the head, shoulders, abdomen, legs and feet. Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands and into the client’s body and energy field, leaving the client feeling deeply relaxed and at peace.

Reiki complements well with traditional medical care as well as alternative therapies. Many hospitals and nursing homes are incorporating Reiki.  It is beneficial for healthy individuals as well, as it supports personal growth and spiritual connection.
